It is the governmental center of county of Logan County. The Chafin House, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Logan was home to the Logan Indians, a minor league baseball team, from 1937 to 1942.
Logan is positioned at the confluence of the Guyandotte River and Island Creek.
